What Amazon Requires and What It Costs

Amazon enforces EU product safety rules through its GPSR programme: listings without an EU Responsible Person can be suppressed. If you sell electronics or batteries, you also need WEEE and battery registration. Cosmetics need a safety assessment. Packaged goods trigger packaging EPR.

What is EU Compliance?

Selling physical products into the European Union means meeting the product safety rules, the market surveillance rules and extended producer responsibility (EPR) in each country. Without them, listings can be suppressed and shipments rejected.

  • Marketplace Level Suppression

    Amazon Europe enforces the General Product Safety Regulation (EU) 2023/988 (GPSR). Listings need the Responsible Person's details attached to each product.

    Germany, France and other countries require producers to register and pay recycling fees for packaging, electronics and batteries.
